Cas-Gwent House is available for your
vacation

|
Cas-Gwent House is a traditional
double fronted, converted house of character dating back to the
mid 1850's. This beautiful property comprises of four large double
bedrooms with three bathrooms, two of which are en-suite and a
further downstairs toilet.
What makes the house something really special is its beautiful
back garden and its location, right in the heart of St,Julians.
The famous Maltese architect and restoration expert Joseph Mifsud
has lovingly restored this beautiful property to all its former
glory. Most of the original features have been retained to capture
the atmosphere and feeling of a quaint bygone era. The high ceilings,
wooden ceiling beams, window shutters, the stone stairway, stone
arches and other exposed stonework have all been conserved to
retain the historic fabric of the building. Two of the bedrooms
still have the original floor tiles.

|
The downstairs area has been enhanced, with the
original three small reception rooms and hallway being opened
up into one large arched open plan room. This incorporates an
eight seat antique dining table that is absolutely perfect for
those intimate dinner parties with friends and family. There is
a lounge area with large TV, DVD player, coffee table and a three-piece
leather suite. An additional adjoining lounge area is equipped
with another coffee table and a very comfortable sofa bed that
can sleep another two people if needs be.

A new fully fitted kitchen over looks the garden.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need to
make cooking and self-catering a pleasure while you are on holiday
in Malta. There is an electric cooker with hob, micro wave oven,
coffee maker, toaster, electric kettle and food blender as well
as a full complement of cutlery and crockery.
There is a downstairs toilet with washbasin next
to the office. The office is actually built around the original
water well that is still in working condition (though you might
find using the taps an easier option). There is an internet connection
in the office and if you need internet access while you are away
on holiday you can pre-order broadband by paying the minimum monthly
cost.

Moving upstairs the main double bedroom
has a small balcony overlooking St. Elija Street. There is a double
wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables together with a dressing
table. The very attractive large en-suite has a fitted shower, wash
basin and toilet. |
|
 |

On the intermediate first landing overlooking
the garden is the second bedroom, with double bed, fitted wardrobe,
chest of drawers and bedside tables. |
 |

Next to the main bedroom is a twin bedded room
that is ideal for children, with wardrobe and large bedside table.
Also on the first floor is a bathroom servicing
the twin and second bedroom. This has a bath with shower, toilet
and washbasin. |
Further upstairs on the top level is the penthouse bedroom. This is a large double bedroom having en-suite bathroom with shower, bedside tables, a built in wardrobe and chest of drawers.
On the roof level is a utilities room, equipped with a washing machine with access on to the roof where there is a clothes line. A iron and an ironing board are also available. |
 |
One of the nicest features of the house
is the Mediterranean back garden. Relax and sit or dine on the beautiful
terracotta tiled patio area with its barbeque. The gardens are well
stocked with some lovely plants, flowers and citrus trees, with
a vivid contrast of colours. On warm summer evenings there is nothing
nicer than dining outside in the seclusion of the garden. There
is seating outside for eight people.
And when it gets really hot, why not cool down in the plunge pool?
The pool is ideal for children too and will keep them occupied for
hours while you take things easy on the sun loungers. The pool measures
5' by 5' and is about 4' 6'' deep. |
Staying at the house is to go back in time and
share a part of Malta's history, and the house is ideally located
in St. Julians, the most popular and vibrant area of the island.
Shopping for groceries is not a problem with the
Park Towers Supermarket only a five minute walk away on the sea
front. There is a delicatessen and butcher within the supermarket
and they also sell alcohol. They do a very good next day delivery
service so it is worth going there at the start of your holiday
and you can stock up with all the necessities. They have a large
selection of local Maltese wines that are very good and competitively
priced. Don't forget to order a few bottles for those dinner parties.
Within easy walking distance of no more than 200 yards are the
picture postcard settings of Spinola Bay and Balluta Bay. St.Julians
is famous for its excellent restaurants, its bars and coffee shops. |

|
|
There is a large swimming pool at Balluta Bay
called Neptunes where you can pay a small daily rate to enjoy
the facilities and swim and sunbathe next to the sea.
The newly built Bay Street Shopping Center is only a further 10
minutes walk from Spinola Bay and well worth a visit. Apart from
the many shops there are more bars and restaurants, a sixteen-screen
cinema and a bowling alley. Bay Street backs on to the Paceville
area, which is the capital of Malta's nightlife, attracting hundreds
of the younger generation (oldest swingers in town are also allowed)
to the many discos and clubs where you can dance and drink the
night away into the early hours.
Sliema is a pleasant 25-minute stroll down the promenade in the
opposite direction. Here you will find another good shopping center,
more bars, restaurants and cafes. There is a regular ferry service
over the water to Valletta, which only takes ten minutes or so.
Several good value sightseeing boat trips also run from the front
in Sliema every day.
The Maltese buses run to every destination all
over the island and you can catch one on the sea front very near
to the house. Car rental is very cheap for those who prefer to
drive, but make sure that you take your driving license on holiday
with you if you want your own transport. The Maltese drive on
the left, the same as the United Kingdom, which makes car rental
a popular option for the British.
Luqa airport is only about a 15 to 20 minute drive from the house.
When you arrive at the airport our friend Leno, who is a licensed
taxi driver will be there to meet you. Leno will have the keys
and take you to the house. The standard fare is 20 euros (one
