Cas-Gwent House
180 Ruldolphe Street, Sliema, Malta

Cas-Gwent House is available for your vacation

Cas-Gwent House is a traditional double fronted old town house. This beautiful property is built on a corner plot and has three very large double bedrooms and three luxurious bathrooms.

What makes the house something really special is its roof garden with plunge pool and the ideal location, being only a few hundred yards from the sea front on the border of Malta’s most popular locations of Sliema and St.Julians.

From Isouard Street

Ruldolphe Street

The house can comfortably sleep up to eight adults and two children and is ideal for a family holiday or a number of couples. The property is in a quiet residential area and as many of our near neighbours are elderly people the house is not suitable for a group of young people. This is a holiday home with a difference. The house itself is full of character and beautifully furnished throughout and we think our rates represent great value for money at a price everyone can afford.

The Maltese architect and restoration expert Joseph Mifsud has lovingly restored this beautiful property to all its former glory. Most of the original features have been retained to capture the atmosphere and feeling of a quaint bygone era. The high ceilings, ceiling beams, window shutters, stone arches and other exposed stonework have all been conserved to retain the historic fabric of the building.

The downstairs comprises of entrance through an imposing hallway leading to two very spacious reception rooms on either side. On the right is a the lounge and sitting room furnished with a three-piece leather suite , two coffee tables, and a new 40 inch flat screen television with a comprehensive list of cable channels available. The lounge can double up as a fourth bedroom at night if needed by making use of a very comfortable sofa bed that sleeps two adults. The downstairs toilet also has a built in shower and is easily accessed from the lounge meaning that guests using the lounge as a bedroom have their own bathroom and there is also plenty of closet space available.

The dining room area incorporates an eight seat antique dining table that is absolutely perfect for those intimate dinner parties with friends and family.

Bedrooms two and three share the very impressive upstairs bathroom that has both a built in shower and a bath, together with a toilet and wash basin. Both bedrooms are exceptionally large and each is furnished with a double bed plus an additional single bed that can be used to sleep smaller children. On request the two singles can be placed together in one of the bedrooms depending on a family’s preferred sleeping arrangements. All the bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space and there is also an additional chest of drawers in each of the bedrooms. The main bedroom also has a dressing table.

Stairs to Roof

From the first floor a stairway leads up to the roof garden. The roof is a real suntrap and for obvious reasons guests love to spend time up there either relaxing on a sun lounger or cooling off in the plunge pool. There is also an eight seat table on the roof which is ideal for enjoying breakfast outside in the morning sun. A mini kitchenette with a sink, work top surface and microwave mean that food preparation can be all done up on the roof and there are facilities for making tea and coffee and a fridge for storing cold drinks and food.

Also on the roof level is a wash room with another sink and a washing machine that guests are welcome to use. An iron and ironing board are also available.

Angela our cleaner comes in every week (for guests staying at least two weeks) to change bedding and towels and clean throughout the house. If you are booked for 1 week only she will come in before and after your stay. Each guest will be supplied with 2 bath towels per week and guests should please bring their own beach towels. There are no additional charges for these services. Electric and water are supplied free of charge of course but we respectfully ask you not to waste energy by making sure you switch off fans and lighting before going out.

The surrounding areas of St. Julians and Sliema.

Although the house has a Sliema address it is right on the border of St.Julians.

Within easy walking distance are the picture postcard settings of Balluta Bay and then St.Julians Bay which is otherwise known as Spinola Bay. Both are famous for excellent restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

There is a large swimming pool at Balluta Bay called Neptunes where you can pay a small daily rate to enjoy the facilities and swim and sunbathe next to the sea.

Shopping for groceries is not a problem with the Tower Supermarket only a ten minute walk away in High Street Sliema. There is a delicatessen and butcher within the supermarket and they also sell alcohol. They do a very good next day delivery service so it is worth going there at the start of your holiday and you can stock up with all the necessities. They have a large selection of local Maltese wines that are very good and competitively priced. Don't forget to order a few bottles for those dinner parties.

There are also some smaller local convenience shops close by. Turn left when leaving the house and turn left at the end of Rudolphe Street and you will find some excellent grocery shops. There is also a very handy ATM there, close to the red phone booth.

Turn right at the phone booth and that is the start of High Street and just 100 metres down on the right you will find the best little pub in Malta ‘The Salisbury Arms’. It’s the perfect venue for football fans and a visit is highly recommended. With viewing on 4 screens you can request to watch any game you like and you will find George a very accommodating host. Their food is also first class and very competitively priced and free Wi-Fi is available.

Bay Street Shopping Centre is only a further 10 minutes’ walk past Spinola Bay and well worth a visit. Apart from the many shops there are more bars and restaurants, a sixteen-screen cinema and a bowling alley. Bay Street backs on to the Paceville area, which is the capital of Malta's nightlife, attracting hundreds of the younger generation (oldest swingers in town are also allowed) to the many discos and clubs where you can dance and drink the night away into the early hours.

Sliema Strand is a pleasant 20-minute stroll down the promenade in the opposite direction. Here you will find the prestigious newly built Tigne Point shopping centre, more bars, restaurants and cafes. There is a regular ferry service over the water to Valletta, which only takes ten minutes or so. Several good value sightseeing boat trips also run from the front in Sliema every day.

The Maltese buses run to every destination all over the island and there are bus stops in Rudolphe Street. The open top bus is a new service and is a great way to see the island. It’s an all-day ticket and you can hop on hop off anytime. Car rental is very cheap for those who prefer to drive, but make sure that you take your driving license on holiday with you if you want your own transport. The Maltese drive on the left, the same as the United Kingdom, which makes car rental a popular option for the British.

Luqa airport is only about a 15 to 20 minute drive from the house. When you arrive at the airport our friend Leno, who is a licensed taxi driver will be there to meet you. Leno will have the keys and take you to the house. The standard fare is 20 euros (one way) regardless of how many passengers there are.

When you depart please arrange with Leno to take you back to the airport and leave the keys with him. Whenever you need a taxi please give Leno a call, he is much cheaper than most taxi drivers, very helpful and he always appreciates a little extra business from our valued guests. Leno's number is (00 356) 9984 4783.
